In its third year, The Florida Summit on Accelerating Transfer Success is a forum where transfer professionals can gather and promote the best strategies, techniques, and tools for transfer student success. This year the work has shifted dramatically due to the global coronavirus pandemic. Instruction and student engagement will be online or blended for the foreseeable future. As such, this professional development opportunity is designed to help transfer professionals design the most engaging experience for transfer students.

Why Attend?

This virtual conference is free of charge and is open to any higher education professional in the Sunshine State. The Florida Summit on Accelerating Transfer Success aims to assist transfer success professionals in their ongoing work to support students using various modalities and by creating innovative solutions related to scale and practicality. The virtual conference will showcase the best and brightest in transfer success.
Transfer Success insights. Sessions will be led by transfer success leaders from across a spectrum of experience. Deep insights can be pulled from numerous sources and perspectives.
Increase student engagement. Sessions will include ideas and innovations on how to engage students virtually, ensure diversity and inclusion in the online environment, and improve the effectiveness of delivering online content including communication strategies and advising models.
Build a network of scholars and practitioners. A strong network of thought leaders and administrators committed to helping transfer students navigate their academic journey is needed now more than ever.
Gain access to curated free resources. This event connects attendees to resources and information to solve the most pressing issues.
Advocate for policy issues. This event is devoted to supporting practitioners as they build a road map for success.

Keynote

Maria Hesse in a red jacket
Maria Hesse serves as a Professor of Practice in the higher education program at Arizona State University. She recently retired after a decade as Vice Provost for Academic Partnerships at ASU, where she spearheaded ASU’s relationships with community colleges, including transfer pathways and success programs, which more than doubled ASU’s transfer student enrollment and significantly increased transfer student bachelor’s degree completion. Prior to joining the ASU administration in 2009, Dr. Hesse served as President and CEO for Chandler-Gilbert Community College, one of the Maricopa Community Colleges. Before her 25 years in the Maricopa Community Colleges system, she was a high school principal and teacher.

Dr. Hesse holds Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science degrees from Arizona State University. She has Master and Doctoral degrees in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University and is a graduate of the Harvard Institute for Educational Management.

In 2019, Dr. Hesse was honored as the Woman of the Year by Arizona Women in Higher Education.
